Mission Tech is a solo project building interactive tools and a free video course that teach networking by letting you touch the protocols yourself.
Why this exists
Networking is the foundation under every system, but the way it gets taught is broken. Textbooks describe packet flows in paragraph form. Certifications charge thousands. YouTube videos show slides. Nobody lets you touch the thing.
I wanted tools where you type an IP and watch 32 bits light up. Where you click "Send ARP" and see the broadcast hit every port. Where you drag a prefix slider and the subnet recalculates live. So that's what these tools do. You run the protocol yourself instead of reading a paragraph describing it.
Who I am
I'm a network engineer who spent years in cloud infrastructure. I failed the CCNA twice before I ever touched a production BGP table. I left a comfortable job because I believed this was worth building. I work alone from Mission, BC, a small town east of Vancouver with mountains, quiet, and cheap rent.
Everything here is built by one person: the tools, the course curriculum, the arcade game, the site itself. No team, no investors, no ads, no tracking. Plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, written after work and on weekends.
Where this is going
The 18-session course is the backbone. It teaches the mental model. The labs are the practice layer, where you apply what you learned. The tools answer one question at a time, on demand. The arcade turns packet delivery into exam and protocol practice.
Next up: more tools, IPv6 depth, wireless fundamentals, and eventually infrastructure (containers, cloud networking, monitoring). The goal is a complete path from "what is an IP address" to "I can debug a production network."

How I build
- 01 Free forever. No paywalls, no premium tiers, no "sign up to continue." If you have a browser, you have access.
- 02 No frameworks. Plain HTML, CSS, and vanilla JS. Every tool loads instantly and has zero dependencies. Most run entirely in your browser with no account and no tracking. A few make a live DNS or public-IP request, and those disclose it before you run them.
- 03 Watch it happen. Every tool makes the invisible visible. You see the bits flip, the packet cross the wire, the handshake complete. Not a slide describing it.
- 04 Respect your time. No tracking, no cookies, no analytics, no newsletter popups. Come, learn, leave. That's it.
- 05 Build in public. The site, the tools, and the process are all visible. Watch the YouTube for behind-the-scenes.
Independent means specific
Mission Tech does not claim accreditation, certification authority, or institutional affiliation. AWS arcade material is clearly separated as exam practice, not a Mission Tech course. The networking course uses open standards, real system tools, and vendor-neutral explanations.
